This isn’t the best photography podcast, but I firmly believe it is one of the best photography podcasts. Here are some other leading photography podcasts that you might like and how they differ to the Filter Photography Podcast.

This Week In Photo (TWiP)

This Week In Photo is a long-form photography podcast that tackles a wide range of topics. TWiP was the first podcast on photography that I subscribed to. It was featured by Apple Podcasts at the time, so I just subscribed thinking it was the best one.

I really like the podcast though. Frederick Van Johnson does a great job at hosting and there’s a lot of other photographers that appear throughout the episodes. Now Frederick Van does photo critique videos, gear reviews and more as part of the podcast.

The bottom line about the podcast: If you’re looking for a podcast with a backlog of episodes that will keep you busy until the end of time, this is the podcast for you!

The Candid Frame

The Candid Frame is a photography podcast hosted by Ibarionex Perello. The Candid Frame is a podcast I am still subscribed to because of its variety.

It features guests that talk about their photography and how they got started, discussions on topics and more. It’s more about the passions behind photography and features fewer gear reviews, photography tips and the more traditional topics.

This podcast has recently changed its podcast covers, but it’s the same one as before.

The bottom line about the podcast: It takes a similar approach to Filter in tackling photography topics a little differently than the bigger names in the directory.

Business of Photography

The Business of Photography is now run by Sprout Studio, but that doesn’t mean much. The podcast is very similar in style to This Week In Photo, but is a little more focus on the business side of photography. Would you have ever guessed that if we didn’t tell you?

The bottom line about this podcast: If you want to learn strictly about the business of the world of photography, or how to transition into a professional photographer, this is the one for you.

The Art Of Photography

The Art of Photography is my favourite podcast. I used to watch all of the podcast videos back when Ted Forbes released them. They were always lit really well and was refreshing to actually see who you were listening to.

The Art Of Photography remains as an audio podcast, and Ted’s social media following is huge because he is an expert at explaining things without boring the listener. There really is an art to that.

The bottom line about the podcast: It’s one of the oldest around, but still so followed. Ted is a legend.

Filter Photography Podcast

You didn’t think we would write a list and leave out our own, did you?

When Filter was started, the goal was to make a podcast on photography that didn’t compete with other podcasts. Podcasts have been around for ages and a lot of them have their own loyal followings. The name, Filter, was chosen by Matt Walter’s social media following and each episode features a mix of answers to listener questions, deep-dives on issues in photography such as restrictive contracts and harassment, and more.

The best part? It almost always comes in under an hour – perfect for work commutes or an extended coffee break.

The bottom line about the podcast: Shortform photography content done a little differently from the big names, but still with high quality professional audio. Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, YouTube or anywhere else in the sidebar.

Which podcast on photography is best for me?

There is no right answer. The best photography podcast for you is one where you connect with the host or is structured in a way that gives you the information you need to be a better photographer. Whether that’s news, an analysis of a photographer’s work, a panel discussion, it’s totally up to you. Only you can decide which podcast on photography is best for you!
